The Twisted Truth

Scripture

11 So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, “We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.” 12 This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council.

13 The lying witnesses said, “This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses. 14 We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the Temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”

15 At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s. (Acts 6:11-15)

Peter and the apostles are at it again. Making trouble by preaching about Jesus. The early followers of Christ were committed to spreading the message of Jesus regardless of the punishment. Not only did they keep preaching but they “rejoiced” that they were considered worthy of the punishment. In Acts 5 we see the apostles thrown in prison, beaten, and happy about it. They were rejoicing because they were found to be worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus. [click to continue…]

The Curse of Futility

Scripture:

Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing!
The faithful have vanished from the earth!
Neighbors lie to each other,
speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts. (Ps 12:1-2)

These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead. (Acts 4:2)

As I am sure that you are aware the 20/20 is: 20 minutes of bible reading,  20 minutes of praying, and 20 minutes of journaling. What I can’t figure out is why it isn’t called 20/20/20? Whatevers. Part of today’s reading is from Acts chapter 4.
