Peter and the apostles are at it again. Making trouble by preaching about Jesus. The early followers of Christ were committed to spreading the message of Jesus regardless of the punishment. Not only did they keep preaching but they “rejoiced” that they were considered worthy of the punishment. In Acts 5 we see the apostles thrown in prison, beaten, and happy about it. They were rejoicing because they were found to be worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus.
Scripture
“So they went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name.” Acts 5: 41 (NASB) Thanks BibleGateway!
Observation
God offends people who have hardened hearts, true that. I’m talking about the all out offensive nature of God where he steadily pushes forward his kingdom in the face of adversity. If God tells you (me) to push forward his kingdom nothing is going to stop him. Society can try to lock you away but God can set you free (whether in spirit or in the flesh) his will is going to be done in this world (yup, just like it is in heaven). You have to be willing to suffer adversity to do the will of God.
Application
To be a follower of Christ means that you don’t live for this world, you are simply living in it. If I am not seeking a daily relationship with Christ I am also not taking part in the advancement of his kingdom. I’m still saved, I’m just sitting on the bench. Is that were I want to be? is that where you want to be? When you walk with Christ you work for his kingdom. If God leads you into a ministry rejoice because you get off the bench.
Prayer
God, how many times have you called me off the bench? How many times have I fumbled? Even still you are here and I thank you. I’m going deep God, pass me the ball!!
So, have you heard about the chili cookoff and superbowl event at Eastside this Sunday? I think I’ve got that on my mind.
