What Did Jesus Accomplish in His Death?

Scripture

And no sacrifice except the execution of the murderer can purify the land from murder. (Num 35:33)

Observation

Law is Law is Law.  The Law of Gravity states that when you drop a heavy object on your foot, it will hurt!  Well, it states that it will fall to earth, if your foot happens to be in the way, the law of “OW” will come into effect.  There are many such laws that science, and daily living, has proven to be fact.  If you jump into the air, you will not float away; you will grow old and have wrinkles; the sun will rise in the East every morning.  We can live each day knowing that these things are FACT.  They are LAW.  They cannot be changed.  Sure God could, in His mighty power, pluck the sun from the sky or remove gravity from the earth, but He will not because He has chosen to be contained by His own laws.  Spiritual laws are just as binding, if not more so, than physical ones.  God put a law into motion that simply stated “No sacrifice except death can purify the land from death.”

Application

So what makes the death of Jesus so powerful?  God chose to be contained by His own laws, but He also created a loophole that He knew only He could use.  In order to avenge death, a death must happen.  This was the reason for the whole sacrificial laws God gave Israel.  The sin was placed on an animal and the animal was slain, then the law was fulfilled; until the next sin was committed.  Jesus had the sins of the entire world, past, present, and future, placed upon Him before His death.  So, the LAW that states only death can purify death has been fulfilled.  NOT abolished, as Jesus said He came to fulfill the law, not abolish it.  The law is still in effect, it has just been the requirements have been fulfilled, so it no longer has power for those who acknowledge the law exists and then accept that Jesus became the “animal”, the pure lamb, placed upon the throne and sacrificed to fulfill that law.  Jesus gave us an anti-gravity suit, if you will, and anyone who refuses to wear it will still be bound to earth by the LAW of Gravity.

Prayer

God, I am just in awe of the way you created this world.   Even though You knew we would fail, you provided a way for us to still be your family.  You could have created a whole world of people who praised you and worshiped you everyday all the time.  But, because you want a family and not puppets, you gave us free will.  That was the greatest gift of all.  Thank-you for providing salvation from our own free will through the blood of Jesus.  Thank-you, Jesus, for becoming my sin and my sacrifice so the I can stand before the Father clean and pure.  Wow, that just amazes me.
